We interrupt this transmission....

.......to bring you something unengagement related (Hoorah, I hear you cry!!)

The full Katz lecture is up here

I've only done the first four sections or so, but I'm glad they've posted this, its interesting to hear Orlando talking about his learning disability and he comes across as sincere and open!

Good job Orlando!

Orlando on Dyslexia

Do you know, this is one of the first interviews I've seen from him in a long while that I thought was genuine and open. I bet it is challenging for him particularly and it can't of been easy to talk about something so personal in his position, its a credit to him!
(You won't often see me posting something with no side to it lol)
Well done Orli!

The Katz Lecture and Kyle

So, OB's Katz lecture went ahead last night, sadly I missed it so I'm hoping it will be around in some form later on today. Early reports seem to say that he was very nervous - bless him! I'm glad he did this, even if it went into more of a "this is your life" excercise than staying on topic. Dyslexia is much better understood than it was, but many many people suffer with it without realising and a bit more exposure is a good thing.

In other news, I also hear our favourite Panty Mantis is styling a new Men's face care range, apparently its called Kyle!

I really hope it IS called Kyle... I don't know about anyone else reading here but there is only one association I have to the name Kyle:

Cartman: Get your ass out of my face Kyle

Happy Bankholiday!

Its Monday and 90% of the UK have the day off, and from what I gather from friends in America they all have the day off too - so HAPPY BANKHOLIDAY / MEMORIAL DAY! :D

As per usual when Orlando is in the UK it goes very quiet, I'm glad that he seems to feel the UK is not a place for pimping! Long may that continue

In the meantime we've also had a bit more of an update about Albert Nobbs. I hadn't realised that this book / movie dealt with the issues of transgender / transexulism (sorry without reading the book I'm not sure which). Both are an interesting topic and one that society at large is only just coming to terms with and I can imagine its going to make for rather an interesting Movie.

OB's character sounds right up his street too - handyman/gardner with a pension for the ladies, LOL thats a role he's played a few times before on and off set I'm sure!

Moving on - The Katz lecture in New York is scheduled for the 4th of June too, Its being billed as 'Orlando Bloom opening up about his dyslexia", it will be interesting if he actually does. Something I learn't recently is that alot of dyslexics also can be dyspraxic (ie appearing clumsy, not quite in control of all their limbs) - I reckon I can actually see that on OB, the way he moves etc..... maybe it explains the amount of accidents he seems to have too, if that is the case then doing the gym / yoga etc will really help - it gives you much better control on your movements and a better awareness of your body!

Setting the Katz among the pigeons?

This one is rather interesting, the Katz lecture has put up a flier on its site advertising "A conversation with Orlando Bloom" as part of its lecture series on 2nd June. Apparently Orlando will be sitting down with one Dr. Harold S Koplewicz as the second part of this event.

This is a new one for Orli, so, having woken up hideously early and with too much spare time on my hands, I had a little dig to see what they could be discussing. The Katz lecture itself seems to be focused on Childhood psychiatric disorders and Dr. Koplewicz has written books relating to depression in adolescents. Some people have been wondering if Orlando is going to talk about his own dyslexia, but I'm not sure that that in itself is a psychiatric disorder - to my mind that sits firmly in the area of learning disabilities. What is interesting is that scholars have written a number of articles on links between dyslexia and subsequently developing a psychiatric problem as an adult.

All interesting stuff! I have to say I'm rather impressed (if this does have any truth to it) that Orlando is taking part in something like this. However, I'd be more than a little surprised if he bases any conversation on his own experiences growing up at more than a superficial level. He's obviously had various issues as a child relating to his family situation, which is well known now. Maybe it will relate to his ongoing work with Unicef? I guess time will tell!!

Wow - far too much sensibility for a post! on a lighter note, the Panty Mantis has discovered a way to teleport birthday cake without the use of air planes - according to her twitter Orlando miraculously managed to defy the flight ban and get a specul cake over to her in time for her birthday (me thinks someone should be checking out their tales before putting them out there). Its also lovely to see that OB is so much of a hurry to get back to his Mantis now airspace has reopened (according to twitter - out last night enjoying "Jerusalem" in London's west end!)

Thats it Orli - keep telling her you simply can't get a flight anywhere, it will probably be a few weeks before she realises it isn't true!

UPDATE: Apparently OB is speaking about his own experiences of living with dyslexia - good on him, I suffer from it myself and find unless you have it really badly, people rarely show much understanding> Excellent, for me an occasion when a bit of celeb promotion seems like an extremely good idea!!
